Double Date with Kate

Saturday was very eventful. Jacob and I woke up and started on the cars right after 9. We (i.e. Jacob and a monkey to hand him tools) changed his oil and changed my brakes.
The first job was routine, the second was, er, new. I think we took off and put on my tires like 3 or 4 times each. Thankfully we only had to do the back and it was uber savings to do them ourselves. Jacob was a real trooper: it only took a couple cuts and mumbled frustrations to make sure everything was in the right place and working properly. And it only took 2 hours, which wasn’t too bad.

Then we got cleaned up for our double date with Kate and Omar. We took them geocaching in Newport News Park. We had not been there before. It was really nice, lots of wild life and bridges, boats and trails. We did do a lot of walking off the trail when we didn’t really need to, oh well.

Kate found our last cache of the day. It was this weird camo-taped golf club. None of us were even sure it was the cache, hah.

We took a break in the discovery center, where Jacob finally figured out what a spring peeper was. Our little hiking trip lasted about 2 hours. We were very grateful for the cool day we had, it was still in the eighties but in the shade the breeze made the day feel perfect.

Our date ended at the famous Silver Diner, famous for starting fights that is. Jacob and I had our very first fight there, over a year and a half ago. Jacob also fought the staff one day when he got half the order of french toast he expected. And yesterday, Kate and Omar had their first fight, aww. He, apparently, is a fan of the new Star Wars rather than the old ones. Kate was not very accepting of this view point, but I believe they found common ground in their opinions about Lord of the Rings…

There was also a hot rod show and a playground, and me feeling very motherly. Oh and one other thing, that just really jump-started our date. Since Jacob would have more fun telling the story than I, I’ll let you ask him about it, but here is a teaser:

  1. Who is Omar? I think I need to talk to Kate! I have never been to Newport News Park either, but it sounds like a lot of fun. Is that a ticket?
