“Daddy City, Daddy Work”

Posted on Jan 31, 2013 by | 7 comments

A lovely blog I enjoy has a weekly linkup:
{pretty, happy, funny, real}Capturing the context of contentment in everyday life.
Here is my little bit of context.

Pretty

I made a doll quilt for Anna. I was inspired by a post I read earlier this week and was burning with crafting momentum from finishing this week a project I started when Anna was only a few months old (a knitted blanket).  I’ve called myself a quilter ever since I worked on my first one for my bedroom when I was 13 and just in high school.  But I never actually made one from start to finish; my mother has a wonderful way of helping me out.  But now that I am states away it is hard to hand over a quilt for binding or other tasks, so I thought I’d start small and make a little one.  I was worried about the colors but I love this little quilt so much.

Happy

Building forts is a current obsession of our little girl.  She loves it best when one of us joins her in her little world, even if we don’t “fit.”  It is the best place to feed baby dolls, and read books.  We all need a place to retreat and feel happy and safe, eh?

Real

Tuesday Jacob threw us into the real world for a day as he pretended to work a regular job. He took the train from New Haven to New York City to meet up with Google workers and other Adsense publishers. I’m pretty sure he spent the day playing on my iPad and eating the free food, but he claims he has a lot of work to do on his sites with his new found knowledge and feedback. One day of commuting and 8ish hours in an office building really changed up our routine and was a big deal, plus we missed our Daddy.   (But I am so so happy that Jacob got a techie fill on his trip! He couldn’t stop talking about his awesome day and that makes me so happy!)

Anna at first kept asking where Daddy was, I explained he was working in the city.  Later in the day, when she would notice Dad was gone, she would remember and then tell herself and me, “Daddy city, Daddy work.”

Funny

Our day started a little earlier than we were used to so I had so much Anna time! We did manage to enjoy a trip to the library, but mostly just caught up on chores around the house. I love letting Anna help with the chores, but on this day she let Elmo help unload the dishwasher. Yep, my toddler helped her helper just like I help her. Elmo, via Anna, handed me every single piece of silverware. I’ve been showing her how to let the dolls play with her, for instance, I hold the glowsticks to her dolls hand during dance sessions. I just didn’t realize how cute and funny it would be when Anna mimicked me.

  1. Your quilt turned out really adorable! Don’t you love the fort building, it has occupied my kiddos on bad weather days for years.

  2. I need an Anna-Elmo helper over here to help with my dishes. Frankie just runs away with things he likes and hides them around the house. Or climbs in the dishwasher.

    • Oh, that is so funny. I’m sure it is interesting finding his treasure spots.

  3. Hi Becca! So glad to find your blog! Thanks for visiting me yesterday! Look at your cute little one! And, as a fellow techie, what I wouldn’t give to spend a day at google. What an opportunity for your hubby! I’ll be sure to stop by again!

  4. Yay! Another person jumping into PHFR! A day at Google sounds like techie heaven. 🙂

    • Yeah, Sarah, I’ve joined in a few times in the past but maybe I’ll try to be more consistent now that I have a PHFR buddy.

  5. Thanks for joining! Love the doll quilt.
