A doughed out weekend

Yesterday we slept in until a little before 8. I decided to procrastinate my homework a bit more and bake some bread! After grinding the wheat and kneading the dough for at least ten minutes my poor Hobart was feeling a bit hot. I’m so happy he does all the work. Ok well not all of it, I still had to do the final knead (~2 min) and the waiting and the rolling. But anyway, it was done by lunch-time for a bit of warm bread for lunch. We took a warm loaf over to the Skinners. One week ago my friend Kathleen gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Olivia. I got to hold her; babies are sooooooo small. And Kathleen and I were able to catch up a bit.

This afternoon, I decided to try to make some bagels. We heard they were best when made at home. The ingredients are simple but the process (like any bread) was time consuming. But even with all the extra effort, they were worth it. They were crunchy on the outside and perfectly chewy on the inside and perfect with a bit of cream cheese (for Jacob) or apple butter (my preference). So seriously, go buy yourself some cream cheese or other bagel topping and make yourself some bagels!
