Our Christmas was extended for the whole month by the kind gift of books as advent from my in-laws. The kids took turns opening a book each day and we loved having so many stories about the season. And my parents were kind enough to make us some lawn decorations. We didn’t have any snow but we did get a metal snowman.
Anna was an amazing enthusiastic helper with the lemon Christmas cookie dough prep the night before our baking marathon. She grated lemons like it wasn’t her first time and we talked and how cookies taste better with love. On baking day she was the best sprinkle adder in town for the first two sheets of cookies. Then she found that UNO was more fun.
Isaac tried to help with the sprinkles but my little boy is beginning to display OCD tendencies. He organizes toys by color and needs to clean up dinner messes as soon as he makes them. His favorite song is “clean up clean up”. Anyhoo, the sprinkles were sticking to his hand, a feeling he was not a fan of. It wasn’t a panic but he wanted to be clean rather than be involved. Rachel and I wrapped up the cookie making together and Santa had plenty of cookies on Christmas Eve.
Christmas morning was happy. We woke the kids up to make cinnamon rolls and check stockings. Isaac shook with excitement when he saw the five hot wheels in there. He tried to carry all five around, unsuccessfully. Anna thought every single gift was amazing. She thanked me profusely for every gift. Jacob was very thoughtful this year. I really appreciated his gifts. He even got me a movie, which isn’t usually a thing we buy, we are a streaming family. I had just recommended it to my friends Carrie and Grace who had come to visit and during that conversation it was sitting in the basement waiting for me to open it. He just gets me.
It was so wonderful to have my parents and sister and brother-in-law with us for Christmas morning. The day was a bit crazy with constant paper flying. But the kids loved delivering the gifts and having help playing with their new toys.
The kids loved their board games and dolls. Anna got a fancy doll with a whole wardrobe and Isaac got a huge scary dinosaur that likes to eat dolls for fun. Jacob likes to put it in places where I’ll be surprised when I find it. The toy has a realistic look that is just enough to make me jump every time. Anna also really enjoyed the building set she got and Isaac and Anna both have enjoyed the puppets.
